Chiefs and traditional leaders in Tarkwa in the Western Region have petitioned authorities to rename the Tarkwa & Abosso (T n A) Sports Stadium.

This follows the refurbishment of the grounds for use for domestic football and, by extension, for the development of game in the country.

The erstwhile T n A Park had been used by Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC as their home grounds until it was shut for refurbishment.

The Yellow and Mauves, as a result, moved their home games to the Akoon Park in Tarkwa, despite playing their CAF Champions League home games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The T n A Sports Stadium was on Tuesday, April 30 handed over to Goldfields Ghana Limited by the contractors.

Speaking on the sidelines of the handing-over ceremony, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa Benjamin Kessie said there were a number of issues raised by Nananom.

Chief among the issues was the renaming of the grounds, he said.

“We are also of the view that we have to meet to iron out certain differences,” he told journalists.

“Nananom raised concerns about naming of the facility and other stuff which I think are laudable so we will meet at the boardroom and see how to go about those issues.”

He, however, commended Goldfields Ghana Limited for putting up the facility as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

MCE Kessie served notice that a team will be constituted by the local authorities to oversee the management of the new edifice and it is not likely to be handed over to the National Sports Authority (NSA).

“We have the competence and together with Nananom we will be able to put together a competent team to manage this facility.”
