The Nanung Youth Association, have implored President John Dramani Mahama, to extend his nominations of appointees into his government to the Nanung Kingdom.

In a press statement issued by the National Vice Chairman of the NAYA, Alhaji Alhassan Nantogmah, the youth association expressed concern over what they describe as neglect of the Nanung people in the President’s appointments.

“The Northern Region, as you know, is anchored on two historic pillars: the Dagbon and Nanung Kingdoms. While Dagbon’s representation in governance has been consistent, the Nanung Kingdom, despite its unparalleled loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains conspicuously absent from your government,” he said.

“This disparity risks undermining the unity and collective purpose we all strive to uphold.
The Bimbilla Constituency, a cornerstone of the Nanung Kingdom, delivered an extraordinary 30,021 votes in the 2024 elections, ranking 6th out of 18 constituencies in the region,” Mr Nantogmah added.

According to them, inclusion of the Nanung people in the Mahama government means a lot to them.

“Though Inclusion is not a favor it is a democratic right and a step toward harnessing Ghana’s full potential. By addressing this oversight, you will honor our people and reinforce the NDC’s reputation as a party that rewards loyalty, values competence, and champions unity,” he added.

“Under the previous NPP administration, a government that received far less electoral goodwill from Nanung our kingdom was honored with key appointments. If a party we minimally supported could recognize our potential, how much more should the NDC, for whom we mobilized overwhelming support, demonstrate reciprocal gratitude?” they queried.

The Northern Region in its current state is made up of the Dagbon and Nanung kingdoms with other settler ethnic groups.
