The Cheif Executive Officer of the National Cathedral Project Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah has blamed the lack of needed funds for construction of the National Cathedral on over politicisation.

The CEO says about 32 million cedis have so far been raised for the project.

Addressing the media in Kumasi, Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah bemoaned the over politicisation of major national projects.

He noted that funds were trickling in to support the construction of the Project but the political twist led to apathy in people supporting it.

“Throughout our 65 years of history, almost all major infrastructure projects have been politicised. The dispassionate discussion that must take place between the value of the project and its use for the country hasn’t taken place yet and it’s not just the National Cathedral,” he bemoaned.

Dr. Opoku Mensah was hopeful that “a project that touches almost 75 per cent of the country’s population who are Christians, could spark a conversation around the Project that would help to depoliticize it for donations to be made to fund the construction of Project.”

He, however, disclosed plans are underway to build a technical platform to acknowledge and appreciate donors to encourage more Christians to donate.

A national campaign would also be launched from 1 September 1 to December 31 to raise more funds.

The Kumasi Council of Christian Churches has thrown their unflinching support for the National Cathedral.

Immediate Past Steering Committee Chairman, Most. Rev Daniel Yinkah Sarfo asked all church leaders to encourage their members to donate to complete the National Cathedral.
