The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of the Minister for Defence, the Minister for Environment, and six others in a fatal military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

In an official statement signed by the Chairperson of the Commission, Kathleen Addy, the NCCE described the incident as a national tragedy that has deeply shaken the country.

“The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) is deeply shaken by the harrowing military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. This tragic incident has plunged the nation into mourning and represents a monumental loss to our Republic,” the statement read.

The Commission extended its heartfelt condolences to the President of the Republic, the government, and the entire nation, particularly the bereaved families grappling with the painful loss of their loved ones.

Among the departed was Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, a former volunteer with the Northern Regional Office of the NCCE. He was also the President of the Civic Education Club at the University of Ghana, where he made significant contributions to civic awareness during his time as a student.

“We pray for the souls of our patriots to rest in eternal peace and may their sacrifice to our beloved country continue to inspire a deeper sense of patriotism and civic responsibility among Ghanaians,” the statement added.

The NCCE called for national unity during this difficult period, urging Ghanaians to stand together in grief and reflection as the country mourns eight gallant men who died in the line of duty.
