The OneGhana Movement mourns the tragic helicopter disaster that claimed the lives of eight (8) Ghanaians including two ministers of state – Hon Omane Boamah and Hon. Murtala Mohammed on August 6, 2025.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and all affected, standing in
solidarity with the nation during this painful time.

We honour the memory and legacy of the departed ministers and the other passengers on the helicopter.

We recognise and honour their dedication to public service and the betterment of Ghana. Their loss is felt deeply not just within their immediate circles but across the entire country.

Both Ministers have been supportive of our work at the OneGhana Movement. Both were committed supporters in our fight against Galamsey through the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey.

Their cooperation with the OneGhana Movement and service to Ghana made them OneGhanaian in many ways.

Hon. Omane Boamah as Defence Minister supported and served as the Special Guest of Honour in our recent Republic Day Public lecture organised in partnership with the Ghana Armed Force Command and Staff College.

We are heartbroken and devasted by this tragic occurrence but hopeful that their service to
country shall be a continuous inspiration to many, and their fight against Galamsey which led to the loss of their lives, shall not be in vain.

The Movement urges the government to support the bereaved families and hereby calls for the institution of a government funded group life insurance policy to cover the dependents of the deceased.

We must protect the families of those who elect to serve our country. We further call for a thorough, transparent investigation into the cause of the disaster. We also advocate
for an urgent review of aviation safety protocols to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.

This sorrowful moment is also a call for unity and resilience. We encourage all Ghanaians to come together in support, compassion, and strength, reaffirming our shared values and hope for a peaceful, prosperous nation.

May the souls of our departed leaders rest in peace, and may Ghana remain united and steadfast.
