The Ghana Highway Authority has announced revised temporary traffic management measures as work continues on the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange bridge on the N1 Highway.
In a public notice issued on March 13, 2026, the Authority said the changes are necessary to facilitate T-beam launching works as part of the ongoing construction project.
According to the Authority, traffic on the northbound carriageway from Accra towards Madina will be temporarily closed during the beam launching operations. Each closure is expected to last between two and four hours.
The revised arrangement will take effect on Saturday, March 14, 2026, and will be implemented on weekends and official public holidays for a period of four months.
To maintain traffic flow during the closures, the southbound carriageway from Madina to Accra — which normally carries four lanes — will be temporarily reconfigured to allow two lanes of traffic in each direction. This will ensure that vehicles can continue to travel between Accra and Madina while the construction works are underway.
The Ghana Highway Authority has urged motorists to avoid the work area where possible, observe all traffic signs, cooperate with traffic management officers and plan their journeys in advance.
To help ease congestion, the Authority has also recommended alternative routes for motorists. Drivers from Liberation Road heading towards Tema are advised to use the Airport Bypass through Flowerpot Junction before merging onto the motorway towards Tema.
Motorists travelling towards East Legon can also use the Airport Bypass and continue through the East Legon underpass.
From J.J. Rawlings Road, drivers are urged to turn right at Gulf House and continue toward GIMPA Road to the Fiesta Royale Hotel Junction. Turn left and proceed along the George Bush Highway, passing Villagio, to Liberation Road.
From Tema along the N1 Highway, drivers can drive through Tetteh Quarshie Interchange to the Fiesta Royale Hotel Junction. Turn left onto North Airport Road, continue past Africa Regent Hotel, and enter
Liberation Road.
The Authority apologised for any inconvenience the temporary measures may cause and appealed to the public for cooperation as work progresses to improve traffic infrastructure in the capital.
