The government will suspend fresh recruitment applications into Ghana’s security services in 2027 as it prioritises qualified applicants who are yet to be enlisted.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak announced the decision on Tuesday, October 20, during an appearance before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.
He said the move followed instructions from President John Dramani Mahama and was intended to ensure that applicants who had successfully completed the recruitment process but could not secure places for training are given priority.
According to the Minister, the recruitment portal will not be opened to new applicants next year while the government works through the existing list of qualified candidates.
“Next year, there will be no new applicants. We are not going to open the portal based on the President’s instructions. We are not going to open the portal for fresh applications,” he said.
Muntaka explained that the government would continue selecting eligible applicants from the existing pool of qualified applicants until the backlog had been exhausted.
“Those who have already applied, gone through and passed the process and qualified to have gone for training but space didn’t allow are the ones we will pick,” he added.
He said fresh applications would only be considered after all eligible candidates on the current list had been accommodated.
“We will keep picking from the list until we exhaust it before another application will be allowed,” the Minister stated.
The decision means prospective applicants seeking to join the security services will have to wait until the government clears the existing backlog before a new recruitment exercise can begin.
