The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to elect its regional executives today, Saturday, August 15.
This forms part of the party’s preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The exercise is expected to produce regional leadership teams responsible for driving grassroots mobilisation and strengthening the party’s organisational structures as it seeks to recover from its defeat in the 2024 general election.
The reorganisation will culminate in the election of national officers on October 3, 2026.
The Regional Delegates Conference is made up of members of the Regional Executive Committee, Members of Parliament (MPs), constituency executive committees, representatives of the Regional Council of Elders and Council of Patrons, as well as representatives of TESCON and other constitutionally recognised groups.
Delegates will elect regional chairpersons, first and second vice-chairpersons, secretaries and deputy secretaries, treasurers, organisers, women’s organisers, youth organisers, Nasara organisers, communications officers and Persons with Disability (PWD) coordinators.
In the Ashanti Region, about 1,020 delegates expected to participate in the exercise.
A total of 34 aspirants are contesting 11 executive positions in an election that is expected to determine the direction of the party’s regional organisation and grassroots mobilisation.
The polls, to be held at the Kumasi Jubilee Park today (August 15), come at a time when the NPP is seeking to strengthen its structures, rebuild cohesion among its members and revitalise its support base in the Ashanti Region.
The region remains a key constituency for the NPP, making the outcome of the election significant to the party’s organisational and electoral preparations.
