The United States branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is backing Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential primary of the party.

A statement issued from the branch says all the twelve (12) votes the branch has are going to be given to the Vice President on Saturday after meeting the requirement needed to accord him that privilege.

According to the statement, the NPP branch in the US organises an internal poll among eligible members whenever there is going to be flag bearer election. After the exercise, whoever comes top is given the backing of the branch at the primary.

Based on the valid votes from 270 members who voted out of the membership of 411, “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 208 votes, representing 77.04% of the votes cast. Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong received 60 votes (22.22%), while Hon. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh each secured 1 vote, representing 0.37% each.”

“In adherence to our ‘winner-take-all’ policy, we declare that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the recipient of the complete endorsement of NPP-USA’s twelve (12) delegate votes in the upcoming elections on November 4th.

“Furthermore, as stipulated in Article 13 of the NPP USA bylaws, delegates are mandated to cast their votes accordingly,” the statement indicated.

It added that “the branch seizes this moment to unequivocally restate its steadfast dedication to endorsing and supporting the candidate who triumphs on November 4th.”

Over Two Hundred Thousand (200,000) delegates are expected to decide on four candidates to choose a flag bearer for the 2024 general election.
