Over 211,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are voting to elect their flagbearer for the December 7, 2028 presidential election.
Among the candidates to be elected is Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
He is contesting the position with four others, namely; Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.
Below is the profile of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong:
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, businessman and media owner.
Born on June 16, 1960, in Assin Dompim in the Central Region, Agyapong has been one of the most visible and controversial figures in Ghanaian politics for more than two decades.
Known for his blunt speech and confrontational style, he remains a dominant voice within the NPP and a polarising figure in national discourse.
He was born to Francis Ohene Kofi Agyapong and Mary Nsiah and received his secondary education at Adisadel College in Cape Coast before furthering his studies at Fordham University in New York in the United States. He is married and has 22 children.
Agyapong entered Parliament in 2001 as Member of Parliament for Assin North and later represented the then newly created Assin Central constituency from 2013 until 2025. During his time in Parliament, he chaired the Defence and Interior Committee and also served on the Judiciary and Special Budget committees, gaining a reputation as an active and vocal legislator.
In 2023, he contested the NPP presidential primary ahead of the 2024 elections, placing second with 37.4 percent of the vote behind former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Despite the loss, Agyapong maintained a strong support base within the party and has since formally declared his intention to contest the primary again, this time targeting the 2028 elections.
His renewed bid is anchored on themes of discipline, industrialisation and tourism development, which he argues are critical to Ghana’s economic transformation and job creation.
Beyond politics, Agyapong is a successful entrepreneur with interests spanning media, real estate and agriculture. He owns several media outlets, including Net 2 TV, Oman FM and Ash FM, under the Kencity Media brand.
His other business interests include the Supercare Group of Companies, the Hollywood Shopping Centre and Assin Farms. Although his exact net worth is not publicly disclosed, he is widely regarded as one of the wealthiest individuals in Ghana.
Agyapong’s public image is shaped as much by controversy as by advocacy. He is known for his strong anti-corruption stance and frequently uses his media platforms to expose alleged wrongdoing.
At the same time, he is also recognised for extensive philanthropic work. He has funded hospital wards, supported health facilities and provided scholarships and financial assistance to students and vulnerable groups across the country.
