Outgoing Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has been confirmed by the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Minority Leader for the 9th Parliament.

The NPP caucus in Parliament, following their abysmal performance in the December 2024 elections secured less than one third of the seats in Parliament, changing the position of the members in the next Legislature.

Prior to his confirmation by the National Council, the outgoing First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, had earlier vouched for Effutu lawmaker to be retained by the party as its caucus leader.
