The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has confirmed Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin as the new Leader of the Majority in Parliament.

His appointment follows the resignation of Suame lawmaker, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu from the role.

The Effutu Member of Parliament will be deputised by Patricia Appiagyei, the Member of Parliament for Asokwa.

Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh is the new Chief Whip for the Majority with Habib Iddrisu and Alex Tetteh as deputy Whips.

Former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who resigned from his role keeps his role as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.

The changes were confirmed after a National Council Meeting in the forenoon of Friday, February 23, 2024.

National Organiser of the party, Henry Nana Boakye, addressed the media after the meeting.

“…so, I can confirm that from today’s emergency National Council meeting, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin is now the Majority Leader, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa is deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Frank Annoh Dompreh, he was the Chief Whip, he is the MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri, then Hon. Habib Iddrisu, he is still the First Deputy Whip. He is the MP for Tolon and then we have a new addition, Hon. Alexander Tetteh is also the 2nd Deputy Whip. He is also from Akontombra in the Western North region,” he noted.
