Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North in the Eastern region, Gifty Twum Ampofo has lost her candidature after the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary today.

The Minister, garnered 202 votes against Nana Ampaw Addo-Frempong’s 222 with Boakye Danquah Palgrave, Nana Kwadwo Mamfe and Kofi Obeng Mensah following respectively with 76 and 4 each.

Five Hundred and Nine (509) delegates voted in the constituency with one rejected ballot leaving Five Hundred and Eight (508) as the valid votes cast.

Meanwhile, COP Alex Mensah also trailed behind Ralph Poku-Adusei in the Bekwai constituency. The former police officer amassed 245 out of the 938 valid votes cast against the Mr. Opoku who obtained 662 of the votes.

Two ballots were rejected. Mr. Poku Adusei steps in the shoes of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu who is the current Member of Parliament in the area but chose not to run next year.
