Over 5,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have braced the cold early morning weather and have gathered at the University of Ghana Stadium to decide on the party’s future.

Despite an attempted injunction, the keenly anticipated event is ongoing with delegates in high spirits.

It is the first major outdoor gathering of the elephant family after the significant defeat suffered in the December 7, 2024 general elections.

The task is simple: Discuss and approve proposed amendments to the party’s constitution, which according to the Chairman of the Delegates Conference Planning Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, have been “reduced to resolutions and put in a language easy to understand.”

Aside the proposed constitutional amendments, the delegates will ponder over the following:

  • The National Chairman’s statement, expected to address the party’s current state and future direction.
  • The report of the General Secretary, providing an overview of party activities and organizational matters.
  • Statements of account from the National Treasurer, detailing the party’s financial health.

Another issue that may be broached although already decided and announced, is the election of a flagbearer scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The contenders in that fate redefining election include; Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong.

The attempted injunction was filed by two members at the High Court in Accra against the holding of the Extra Ordinary National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday July 19, 2025.

The members are, Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Kwadwo Boateng.

The application sighted by 3news reads in part, “Counsel for and on behalf of the Plaintilfs/Applicants herein praying the Honourable Court for an Order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the Defendant/Respondent herein from organising the Extra ordinary National Delegates Conference scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium, Accra from 18th to 20th July, 2025 pending the final determination of the instant suit in terms of the accompanying affidavit.

“Any such further order or orders as this Honourable Court may seem fit,” it added.

In his affidavit in support of the application, Kwadwo Boateng wrote among others that:
