One person has died in a road traffic collision at the Ako Adjei Interchange in Accra on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has confirmed.

The accident involves a KIA Rhino truck with registration number GE 1120-15, and a Zedrive Saloon Car registered as GW 6334-26.

In a statement issued by the GNFS, it said it received a distress call at 1:16 a.m., and discharged a “rescue crew led by ADO I Yussif Yakubu, arrived at the scene within six minutes to find the driver of the saloon car trapped and unresponsive.”

According to the report, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene after examination by the medical team.

The statement added that the GNFS rescuers “carried out an extrication operation, employing door and steering wheel removal techniques to safely retrieve the body from the wreckage.”

Preliminary information suggests the KIA Rhino truck was faulty and stationery on the road, where the saloon car collided with it. Meanwhile, investigations are in place to establish the exact cause of the crash.

“The GNFS urges all motorists whose vehicles break down on the road to immediately deploy reflective warning triangles or other visible warning devices to alert approaching drivers, particularly at night, and help prevent similar tragedies,” the statement further advised, expressing its condolences to the bereaved family.

It further advised road users to “exercise caution and strictly observe road safety regulations at all times” to prevent such crashes from recurring.
