Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, says he sees no real impact effected by the John Mahama administration a year after taking office.
The Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central region believes the government has not achieved any tangible results for which it can boast of.
According to him, the administration has not undertaken any major projects within the first year in office, adding that outstanding debts to contractors who had secured bank loans execute their projects have still not been paid.
“Last year, 2025, what did the government do? Did it pay contractors who had worked and borrowed from banks? If the economy is stagnating and we continue to talk about paper growth, I am interested in the cocoa farmer and the real impact on citizens,” he said on Channel One TV on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Afenyo-Markin explained that although the economic indices on paper look good, the real impact in the lives of the citizens is non-existent, making those macroeconomic indicators meaningless.
“I am not here to talk about numbers that have no effect. If the numbers have made a positive impact, I will acknowledge and applaud them. But so far, one year in office, the government has not made any real impact,” he added.
The lawmaker mentioned the government’s promise to establish a Women’s Bank which it failed in the first year, with the budget allocated for the project in its second year being ineffective to make any real impact.
“What are the tangibles in terms of policy implementation? What have they achieved? They came they said they were going to do women banking so that there would be banks in various districts to help women get loans to do business.
“They said this, year one, zero, year two, the money that they provided for in the budget can only be an amount to meet the minimum requirement to set up a bank. So what will become the working capital, and what budget have they made for infrastructure in the various regions and districts? So, it’s been zero,” he chided.
