Journalism goes beyond just reporting or breaking news. It is about telling impactful stories that inspire change and improve lives.
In 2025, Onua News demonstrated this true essence of journalism through a series of reports that led to significant positive changes in the Aowin municipality of the Western North region.
One major report by Onua News highlighted how illegal mining activities (galamsey) had contaminated water sources in several communities, depriving residents of access to clean and safe drinking water.
Following the publication, the Aowin Municipal Assembly took swift action by initiating the drilling of 27 mechanized boreholes across 27 affected communities. Work on the project commenced in November 2025 and is expected to be completed by January 2026.
In another report published in August 2025, Onua News drew attention to the increasing rate of road accidents especially motorcycle crashes along the Enchi Asankragwa highway, caused by the absence of speed ramps.
In response, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Stephen Morcher, directed the construction of modern speed ramps along key sections of the highway, including the Nana Brentu Senior High School stretch and the Enchi–Dadieso road, to help reduce accidents.
Additionally, Onua News exposed the effects of frequent power outages on businesses and educational institutions, particularly the Nana Brentu Teacher Training College and Nana Brentu Senior High School.
The Assembly, under the leadership of the MCE, responded by donating a 60KVA generator to both institutions to ensure continuous power supply whenever there is an outage.
Residents of the municipality have since commended Onua News reporter, Emmanuel Sowah, for his dedicated work and commitment to highlighting community issues that demand urgent attention.
They also praised the MCE, Stephen Morcher, for being a responsive and people-centered leader who listens and acts in the best interest of his constituents.
Mr. Morcher, in turn, expressed his appreciation to the media, especially Onua News, for their role in promoting accountability and development. He emphasized that constructive criticism from the media helps him and the Assembly identify challenges and work towards fulfilling their mandate effectively.
