Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has postponed the Odwira Festival which was scheduled for October 31,2025.

He explained at the Asanteman Council meeting on Thursday, October 16, 2025 that, there cannot be an Odwira Festival without Asantehemaa.

Per Asante tradition a successor for the late Asantehemaa must be enstooled and the necessary rites performed.

He stated that, the demise of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, is thus part of the reason for the postponement.

“Tradition demands that a successor is enstooled and the requisite stool rites done at Wirempe,” he said.

The Asantehene said a new date will be communicated at the right time.

The Odwira Festival, one of the biggest festivals for the Asante Kingdom, is celebrated annually with a series of traditional activities and rituals performed to purify the communities, the people, and the ancestral stools of the traditional rulers.
