A former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, has expressed confidence that they will win the 2024 presidential election held on December 7.
Mr Manu, who is a key member of 2024 campaign of the party, told 3news in an interview on December 8, that the party is on course to end the conventional eight-year cycle for the two leading parties in the country- the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His comments come at a time when speculations are rife that his party’s candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is trailing behind the NDC’s John Mahama in the results of the presidential election.
“Our key objective is to break the 8. Nothing has changed. We haven’t deviated,” he told 3news’ Eric Egbeta.
Since the inception of the 4th Republic in 1992, presidential candidates of the NDC and NPP have both served two eight years’ terms.
The late ex-president Jerry John Rawlings served from 1993 to January 6, 2001. Former president John Agyekum Kufour took over and served until January 6, 2009, followed by late ex-president John Evans Attah Mills and John Mahama who jointly served for the period 2009 to January 6, 2017.
The current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will complete his eight-year tenure on January 6, 2025. Instead of an NDC win in line with this cycle, Mr Manu is sure of an NPP win.
Asked if they are on course to achieving that aim, he said “time will tell.”
