Paramount chief of the Ada Traditional Area, Jetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III, has reminded President Akufo-Addo of some problems in his community he laid before him which have still not been addressed.
During the President’s visit to the 2023 Ada Asafotufiami, the paramount chief stated that key among the issues affecting them were “roads surrounding the Songor lagoon and it’s adjoining salt pans, where all the salt production would take place from Nakom Korpey to Koluedor, running through Toflokpo and from Kablevu running from Ada East District.
“I also brought to your Excellency’s attention the fierce threat of sea erosion in some coastal areas of Ada, which is as a result of global warming through climate change and the consequential effect of rising sea levels, which if not tackled with the construction of solid sea defence walls, will jeopardise the resource of Songor lagoon and its great socio-economic prospects for now and the future.”
But according to Kabu Akuaku III, their problems are still staring at their faces a year after his complaints to the President.
The President of the Ada Traditional Council made the disclosure to the President during his speech at the grand durbar held for the 87th firing of musket festival –Asafotufiami 2024, at the Presbyterian School park at Bana Saturday, August 03, 2024.
“But your Excellency, I wish to state, rather regrettably that, in spite of my fervent appeal in this regard, the situation has made more precarious by the recent Volta Dam water spillage, that has even taken over some villages on the islands at Ada and destroyed their small businesses and their source of livelihoods,” the speech read on his behalf contained in some parts.
Jetse Akuaku, however, expressed optimism in the five months periods left for the President to finish his term of office, stating that he and his people are hopeful that the President will work on their challenges for them.
However, in all these, your Excellency, we remain resolute and unfazed in our determination to face the odds with optimism and courage to move ahead and succeed, and I believe you will never abandon us in this great quest to prove the indomitability of the human spirit.
“I believe that from here, your Excellency would kindly cause the relevant state institutions to address the stated infrastructural deficits and oversights that have been waiting so long to receive the requisite attention, not forgetting the serious challenges being faced by the health delivery facility in the traditional area, the Ada East District Hospital and issues pertaining to improving education delivery in the Ada State,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo was supposed to attend the 2024 Asafotufiami as the Special Guest of Honour but could not attend, delegating the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, in his stead.
