Ghana’s Parliament on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, approved the ratification of visa waiver agreements with four countries —Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, and the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The agreement according to the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, is meant to strengthen multilateral partnerships between Ghana and these countries in some key sectors.

The sectors, Mr. Vanderpuije indicates, include education, energy, trade, tourism, and agriculture, all of which are expected to benefit from increased mobility and collaboration.

The agreements apply to holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports, enabling smoother travel and enhanced cooperation.

On his part, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, told the House that the agreement was not going to result to any immediate or direct revenue loss.

He stressed that the benefits Ghana will derive from the visa waivers economically, will outweigh what the nation would have gained from visa fees.

The North Tongu Member of Parliament noted that the initiative will boost trade and tourism inflows, and also strengthen bilateral cooperation with the partner nations.

Ghana is expected to reap from these relationships with long-term socio-economic advantages as well as its partners.
