Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said that the NPP prioritises the peace of the country unlike the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He has chastised the NDC as always seeking confrontations leading to fisticuffs that tarnished Ghana’s democracy.

His comments come on the back of the developments that occurred in Parliament Tuesday, October 22, 2024, when members of the NDC caucus occupied seats meant for the NPP caucus.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, asserts the actions of the NDC MPs was to trigger a fight which was avoided by members of the NPP due to their maturity.

The Manhyia South Member of Parliament, described the action by the NDC MPs as an ‘unruly conduct’, reminding them that the legislative chamber is a place for intellectual debate and not a boxing ring.

“The free-for-all-fight and bloodshed they [NDC Minority] were expecting in parliament last Tuesday, we didn’t give them. We didn’t give them because we are disciplined and mature. We understand that Parliament is a place for intellectual debate, not a boxing ring. Unlike them, the NPP always prioritizes the peace and stability of this country,” he noted.

NAPO urged members of the NDC caucus to concentrate on making laws that would benefit their constituents and the nation as a whole, and champion their welfare in the process.

Speaking at a stakeholders engagement at the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College, as part of his tour in the Greater Accra Region Thursday, October 24, 2024, the former Energy Minister remarked that such violent confrontations are not worthy of Honourable Members of Parliament.

He used the opportunity to highlight some of the achievements of the NPP government in the health sector particularly the Agenda 111 policy and the restoration of nursing trainee allowance that was canceled by the NDC. He pleaded with them to continue to repose their confidence in the NPP and Dr. Bawumia to better their lots.
