The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Police Intelligence and Operations Unit, has arrested 186 suspects and rescued several victims following a 10-day intelligence-led operation targeting organized crime in parts of Kumasi.
In a statement signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs, on Tuesday, June 23,2026, the operation ran from 8th to 17th June 2026, covering areas like Suame, Asokwa, Manhyia, Tafo, Bantama and other crime-prone suburbs.
“During the operation, 186 suspects comprising 152 males and 34 females were arrested for offences ranging from armed robbery, drug trafficking, possession of narcotics, possession of firearms and ammunition, to operating without valid documentation,” the statement said.
Police also retrieved exhibits including dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, unlicensed firearms, ammunition, sharp weapons, and quantities of cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
“The Command wishes to assure the public that investigations are ongoing, and all suspects will be processed for court in accordance with due process,” DSP Ahianyo said.
He added that the rescued victims, including minors, have been handed over to the Department of Social Welfare and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit for care and support.
“The Ashanti Regional Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We urge the public to continue providing credible information to help rid our communities of criminal elements,” the statement concluded.
“Police will not relent in its efforts to make the Ashanti Region safe for everyone,” DSP Ahianyo assured.
