The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a viral social media video in which he posed as a bandit and issued threats that caused widespread panic.

The suspect, identified as Evans Puplampu, was picked up on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 following intelligence-led surveillance by police.

The video, which circulated widely on TikTok, showed the suspect with his face covered alongside a caption that read, “We are starting from Ghana churches,” triggering concern among the public.

According to police, the suspect admitted during interrogation that he was the individual in the footage. He explained that he had imitated a trending social media pose for amusement and had no intention of causing harm or fear.

Authorities retrieved a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone believed to have been used to record and share the video. The device has since been kept as evidence.

The suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court.
