The Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has arrested a Nigerian national, identified as Esther Obasi, after viral videos emerged showing her dressed in Ghana Police camouflage and the standard black police uniform.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect is currently in custody assisting investigations.

The videos triggered widespread public outrage and raised serious concerns about the unauthorised use and abuse of police uniforms.

Investigations by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team established a link between the suspect and a Police officer, who was invited to assist with investigations and subsequently produced her.

The officer stated that he had given the uniform to the suspect to wash for him.

The police further confirmed that internal investigations have also identified the officer whose uniform was used.

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public against the unauthorised use of police uniforms, stressing that offenders will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
