The Ashanti Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for the persons who attacked the office of the founder of United Progressive Party, Akwasi Adae Odike.

The regional command which dispatched officers to the scene following the attack confirm some damages were caused to the glass doors, vehicles, TV and chairs at the office of Odike.

According to sources, the attackers who held pistols were led by one Jamal, who is currently on the run with his accomplices.

The office of the political figure was attacked on Monday at Pataase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

William Evans-Nkum had reported on Onua News that the founder of the United Progressive Party (UPP) suspects his life is under threat owing to some ongoing galamsey activities in the Ashanti Region he spoke about.

Odike had alleged that some chiefs in the region have allowed illegal mining to be perpetuated on their lands.

He was subsequently invited to Manhyia by the caretaker chiefs – because Otumfuo has travelled – which he declined, making them slaughter a sheep on his head.

On the afternoon of Monday, August 22, 2022, the politician’s office, located near the Police depot was rushed in by four men.

According to reports, two persons who wore helmets entered the office first and started scattering things after asking those inside to lie prostrate on the floor.

The third person, who had only a handkerchief covering his nose and mouth went in with a gun and started firing shots but didn’t aim at any of the persons that were lying on the floor.

Evans-Nkum reports further that even though Odike was inside the office, the armed men couldn’t find him because he was behind the partition in the office which has a glass one cannot be seen through.

The fourth person standing outside took stones and started smashing the vehicles parked in front of the office.

After ransacking the office and shooting sporadically without sight of him, they left.

After the incident yesterday, the Kumasi Traditional Council invited him and yet again, he declined.

Meanwhile, the police are currently pursuing the perpetrators to commence investigations into the issue.
