The Ghana Police Service has announced the recovery of weapons, ammunition, clothing, and other exhibits linked to the gold shop robbery incident at Mpohor in the Western region, following the arrest of one suspect on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Police has said in a Tuesday, August 19, 2025, statement that the Kuntanase District in the Ashanti Region intercepted a suspicious white Toyota Sienta on the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road, but two men standing by the vehicle fled into the bush on seeing the patrol team.

The officers searched the vehicle and uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each, additional packets of ammunition, cowrie shells, a Huawei smartphone, identity documents, and clothing items.

According to the police statement, some items recovered from the vehicle revealed strong resemblance those revealed in the CCTV footage of the Mpohor robbery, regarding the hooded tops and wellington boots used by the gang during the robbery.

The Police Administration has commended the Kuntanase District patrol team for their vigilance and professionalism.

Meanwhile, the investigation team is pursuing further leads, and security operations have been intensified nationwide to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
