John Dramani Mahama has asked those seeking urging him to select his running mate from their regions to keep praying for the Lord to touch the hearts of the party leaders responsible for that role.
He says many of the regions he has visited have asked that he considers them in choosing his running mate for the 2024 elections.
Speaking with the chiefs and people of Sehwi Wiawso, capital of the Western North region as part of his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ Wednesday, December 13, 2023, the former President said he is considering choosing his running mate in February 2024.
However, since he is not solely in charge of the selection, those urging him to choose someone from their region should pray that God directs the party leadership to choose someone who can best support him for victory in the elections.
“It appears every region have their candidate so I’ll say we should pray. And l said it in Bono that the selection of a candidate is not done solely by me. It’s done together with the Council of Elders and the functional executives. We will carefully examine the list of those who qualify and we will all look through and select one and we are hoping to do that by February.
“So those who want their person to be chosen should pray so that it will touch the hearts of those in charge of the selection so they choose that person for you,” he stated in Twi.
Quoting a popular Akan adage in relation to the role of the Supreme Being in the selection of leaders, he indicated that “so, I’ll plead with you all to be patience for God to choose whom He wants me to go with since there is a saying that it God that chooses a king.”
