The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has promised to construct a police station at Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region following deadly police shooting incident in the community.
The Minister has also promised to provide police recruitment opportunities for families who lost their relatives in the incident as part of measures to support the bereaved families.
Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak made the commitments when he, together with the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Sefwi Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, visited the community to commiserate with the bereaved families and meet victims who sustained gunshot injuries.
The visit follows the July 7, 2026 incident, during which police personnel from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Command reportedly went to Sayerano to arrest a suspected drug peddler.
According to accounts from residents, the arrest triggered resistance from some community members, resulting in a confrontation during which gunshots were fired.
Five people were reportedly shot, with two losing their lives.
Eight police personnel allegedly linked to the incident have since been interdicted pending investigations.
Addressing residents at a community gathering, the Interior Minister appealed for calm and urged residents to allow the investigative process to proceed.
He assured the community that the government would ensure that justice is served without fear or favour.
The Minister said the construction of a police station in the community would help improve security in the area.
Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Juaboso, called on residents to remain calm.
He assured the affected families of his commitment to supporting their quest for justice.
Mr Akandoh described the incident as unfortunate and said measures must be put in place to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
The visit by the two ministers comes amid continued calls from residents and families of the deceased for justice, accountability and support for those affected by the incident.
