The Western North Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the recent shooting incident at Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District, which claimed three lives and left two others injured.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Dr Francis Tsidi, led a delegation to the community to assess the situation and engage with affected families and community leaders.

During the visit, DCOP Dr Tsidi expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and sympathised with the injured victims, assuring them of the Police Service’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.

Addressing residents, the Regional Commander disclosed that the Police had gathered sufficient information to begin a thorough investigation into the incident.

He assured the public that all facts surrounding the shooting would be established through a fair and professional investigative process.

Speaking to the District Chief Executive, Alexander Adu Quist, said he will continue to engage with both the community and the police command to bring a lasting solution to the incident.

Background

On July 7, three persons were killed following a confrontation between police officers and residents of Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.

The incident allegedly occurred on July 7, when officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command went to the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler.

Speaking to newsmen, Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz, one of the residents claimed they attempted to resist the arrest, leading to a confrontation during which the police allegedly opened fire.

Two people were reportedly killed at the scene, while two others sustained gunshot injuries and fractures. Another person is reported missing, with residents fearing the individual may also have been shot.

According to Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz, the whereabouts of the missing person remain unknown. He said residents do not know whether the individual is dead or alive.

The injured victims have been taken to a health facility for treatment. One of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue, while the other body remains in the community.

Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz expressed disappointment over what he described as the police’s handling of the operation and called on the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served.

Meanwhile, the police have yet to issue an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
