Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Emmanuel Victor Smith has disclosed that the convicted former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu is set to appear in court on January 21,2026.
Sedina Tamakloe has been arrested in the United States and detained at Nevada Southern Detention Centre.
Ambassador Smith said reliable sources have informed him that Sedina Tamakloe will appear before a U.S Judge to defend her arrest and deportation particularly because of an extradition request by Ghanaian authorities.
“I am informed she is due in court on 21st (January). She will go before either an Immigration Judge or a Judge for them to make a determination whether you have a case against the arrest and if your lawyers can make a sufficient representation for the case to drag on,” he disclosed on TV3’s KeyPoint, Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Ambassador Victor Smith also noted that personnel from Ghana’s Embassy in U.S have not yet made contacts with Sedinam and are working to get in touch with her at the detention centre and offer any help they could.
“Not yet. [we have not made contact with Sedina Tamakloe] Nevada is about 5 and half hours away from Washington. I am trying to get my officers to see if we can make contact or visit with her,” he told Alfred Ocansey.
He said he is yet to receive any information about her legal representatives in the U.S
“Not at all, I don’t have that information [regarding her lawyers and who is representing her],” he stated.
“My information is that she is going to go to a Judge per their proceedings,” he added.
“As far as our sister Sedina is concerned, we have not been successful so far but my officers are working on it as we tried in the case of our brother Ken and he declined,” Mr. Smith said.
“Our sister, once we make contact with her, we will try and find out whether she needs any kind of support or assistance. We need to get to her first,” he remarked.

She sought permission from the court to travel to the United States for medical treatment during her trial and did not return, leading the court to proceed with the case without her.
She became a fugitive in the United States, with an arrest warrant issued by the Accra High Court.
In December 2025, reports indicated that the U.S. was completing final checks to finalize her extradition to Ghana.
