Black Stars striker Antoine Semenyo has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for February.
He beat competition from Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres, Brentford’s Dango Ouattara, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Nico O’Reilly and Manchester United’s Benjamin Šeško, who had been named the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month.
The award comes barely a month after the Ghanaian joined City.
In the month under review, Semenyo scored three goals and provided one assist in five league appearances, including crucial matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, and Leeds United.
The 22-year-old’s impressive form has been instrumental in City’s strong push for the title, helping the team maintain an unbeaten run of seven matches in the league.
“Semenyo’s rise has been phenomenal,” said a City official.
“He’s adapting quickly and making a real impact. We’re excited to see what he achieves next.”
The player himself is excited with the award, coming barely a month after joining City.
“This is a brilliant moment for me. To win the Premier League Player of the Month award so soon after joining City is something I’ll never forget,” Semenyo said.
“My focus now is on continuing to improve and helping City achieve the best possible results”
Semenyo’s award marks a historic moment for Ghanaian football, as he becomes the third player from the country to receive this honour, joining Tony Yeboah in 1995 and Andre Ayew in 2016.
