Ghanaian music engineer and producer, Zapp Mallet, has retracted his words on Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s attempt to break the record for the longest singing marathon in the world.

The engineer, after the day two of Aduonum’s attempt went on social media to pour out his observations hammering on the loss of keys and his fears of not making it due to the technicalities in singing which she was missing out in the process.

The post, which received series of criticisms and reactions, with some explaining the rules of the competition which excludes the technicalities he spoke about, made him come back to retract his initial comments.

In a post on X Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Zapp Mallet, who admitted he was ignorant of the rules of the singing marathon apologised to Afua, her fans and all Ghanaians for judging her “so hard” without recourse to the rules of the game.

“Guys, I’m so sorry. I just realised I was judging Afua Asantewaa so hard. Please forgive me. I didn’t know the rules. But I said some of the things out of concern for her. Please don’t get me wrong. I’m behind her just like every Ghanaian,” his post indicated.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum is on a journey to break a world record for the longest individual singing marathon.

In her attempt to break the Guinness world record by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in March 2012, Afua has been singing Ghanaian songs back-to-back at the Akwaaba village.

Afua’s journey which commenced at midnight on December 24 is expected to end on December 27, which means she will be singing non-stop for 4 days 9 hours.

Many celebrities and high profile personalities have visited the scene to show her support including Vice President Bawumia who said the creative art industry should be given the needed support to harness the potential of those have talents to showcase.
