To harness the potentials of players in the creative arts industry, the country needs to prioritise the sector and do more to support those in the field, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has indicated.

He says Ghana has not done enough to support those in the sector which has affected its growth, notwithstanding the abundance of talents possessed by many in the industry.

The Vice President was speaking after visiting the Akwaaba Village in Accra where a Ghanaian lady, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, is attempting to break the world record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

After visiting to show his support for the young lady, Dr. Bawumia said more jobs could be created if much attention is given to the sector due to the numerous talents possessed by people in the field, and also help the country earn more foreign exchange.

“What is clear to me is that talents exist. There is a massive amount of talent in the creative arts but I don’t think we invest sufficiently in the sector.

“I believe that the returns on the investment could be high for the country because we are looking at job creation, exchange earnings and so on. But I don’t think that we have done sufficient over the years and we have to pay attention to this sector,” he told Accra-based Citi News Tuesday, December 25, 2023.

The NPP flag bearer called on all Ghanaians to throw their support for the young lady to attain the feat she aspires to.

“What Afua is trying to do is to break a world record and it is not very easy to do. So on a day like this [Christmas day] when everybody is spending time with their families, it could be very lonely and I think that as Ghanaians we should give her all the support and encouragement we can.

“So I think we should give her all the support so I thought I should stop by here and let her know that Ghana is behind her and she should go ahead and break the record.”

“I have been following and I think that she is doing great. I think that Wednesday we will be back here by the grace [of God] and we will be back here to break the record,” he added.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum is on a journey to break a world record for the longest individual singing marathon.

In her attempt to break the Guinness world record by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in March 2012, Afua has been singing Ghanaian songs back-to-back at the Akwaaba village.

Afua’s journey which commenced at midnight on December 24 is expected to end on December 27, which means she will be singing non-stop for 4 days 9 hours.
