Professor Ransford Gyampo has asked the Vice President and flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to “spend much time to rebuild the palpable trust deficit and show no sense of entitlement to anything.”

The Professor of Political Science wants the Vice President to focus on his own campaign, rather than responding to the opposition who stand vindicated by the deeds of the ruling administration which he (Bawumia) is part.

“Remember, you were brought on board to manage the economy and your own lecture series and public utterances gave a lot of hope to many Ghanaians. But the hope of many have been dashed. Your government has dissipated the goodwill willed to it by many Ghanaians. Even among your core support base, there are complaints and regrets,” Prof. Gyampo said in a letter written to Dr. Bawumia to offer him what he calls a free political consultancy.

In a related development, a political marketing strategist also at the University of Ghana, Prof. Kobby Mensah, recently asked the Vice President to profess his own vision to Ghanaians rather than be badmouthing what someone has proposed.

His message was delivered in a post on X, formerly Twitter, asking that someone advises the Veep to tell Ghanaians what he has to offer rather than launching attacks on someone else’s.

His comment came after the Vice President had, in a viral video, said the National Democratic Congress’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, does not understand what it means to have the 24-hour economy he has proposed.

The Vice President went on to say that what the former president has proposed does not make sense.

According to Dr. Bawumia, there are many sectors of the Ghanaian economy that are already operating a 24-hour economy, therefore defeating the novelty of the idea as the former president wants Ghanaians to believe.

He went on to ask Ghanaians to forget about Mahama’s promises and vote for him to roll out the new vision he has for the citizenry.

But for the political marketing strategist, Bawumia should rather let Ghanaians know his supposed new vision rather than unnecessarily attacking what another has proposed.

In his epistle to the Vice President, Prof. Gyampo has equally advised the NPP flag bearer to focus and “speak to the issues, stop the unnecessary mocking laughter that intersperses your public remarks, as they create a certain condescension, sense of entitlement, and show disrespect for popular sensibilities.”
