The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has announced a thorough review of the budget of the senior national men’s soccer team for upcoming games.

He says the budget for the upcoming matches has been approved albeit after a downward adjustment.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, September 2, the Buem Member of Parliament (MP) noted that some of the costs on the budget estimates are higher, forcing the Ministry to “look for other sources to be able to deal with this loophole or this gap”.

He, therefore, announced major reviews to some of the items.

For example, the Sports Minister noted that the original budget of $1,239,090 for the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali has been reviewed downwards to $856,890, saving the country $382,200.

The $5,000 cost for fuel for bus (internal transportation) ahead of the Chad game has been scrapped.

Players will, henceforth, earn $5,000 as winning bonus, same as assistant coaches, with the Head Coach, Otto Addo, bagging $10,000.

“This was done either through the reduction of some of the line items or completely taking some of them off because we think that we can meet them through other processes,” Mr Adams said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to respond to this after Monday, September 8, when the team plays Mali.
