The Suaman District Assembly has launched the government’s Tree for Life initiative with a target of planting 150,000 seedlings across the district to promote environmental sustainability and restore degraded lands.
The launch ceremony was held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Dadieso Senior High School, bringing together government officials, traditional authorities, forestry officers, students, and community members.
Speaking on behalf of the Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, Paul Nutsugah called on all residents to actively participate in the tree-planting exercise to help beautify and protect the environment. He disclosed that the Regional Minister has pledged to reward districts that excel in the implementation of the initiative, urging everyone to plant at least one tree in support of the campaign.
The Deputy Forestry Manager, Felix Ansie, who represented the Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, said that Suaman District has been allocated a quota of 150,000 seedlings under the Tree for Life programme. According to him, preparations for the exercise have been completed, and the district has already received its first batch of 5,000 seedlings for the initial phase of planting.
Mr. Ansie assured participants that measures have been put in place to replace any seedlings that fail to survive after planting. He added that the Forestry Commission has also developed strategies to protect and nurture the trees until they reach maturity.
The Suaman District Chief Executive, Vasco Obour, stated that the Assembly has collaborated with traditional leaders and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the initiative. He said the district is fully committed to supporting the government’s environmental agenda and has partnered with the Forestry Commission to safeguard all trees planted.
He encouraged every resident to plant a tree within their surroundings to help protect lives and preserve the environment for future generations. Mr. Obour also warned that anyone found uprooting or destroying trees planted under the initiative would face the full force of the law.
