The Suaman branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong rebuttal to a viral video circulating on social media that alleges that its District Chief Executive (DCE) Vasco Obour, is misusing DRIP machines to support illegal mining operations in the Dadieso area.
The video shows equipment meant for the government’s District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) being actively used to facilitate illegal mining activities, a.k.a. ‘galamsey’ under the DCE’s direction.
But the Suaman branch of the NDC has refuted the allegations.
Speaking to the media, the party’s Communication Officer, Clearance Agyiri, described the video as “misleading and politically motivated”, asserting that it lacks evidence and context. He emphasised that the DRIP machines do not include any excavators.
Additionally, the lowbed machine, he noted, has been non-functioning for about three weeks due to a tyre breakdown.
He claimed the video is a calculated attempt to dent the reputation of the DCE and the NDC administration in the area.
The Suaman NDC is adamant that DCE Obour Vasco is not complicit in galamsey. The party members maintain that the DRIP initiative remains focused on environmental rehabilitation, and they’re ready to legally confront what they deem to be politically motivated misinformation.
The communication officer further disclosed that the DCE has been on top in the fight against galamsey in the area, especially those working on river bodies.
