A suspect in the robbery incident along the Dabanyin stretch of the Kasoa — Winneba highway has been sentenced by the Kasoa-Ofaakor Circuit Courtto 25 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Mohammed Bello was part of a gang that opened fire on a Toyota Hiace in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025, where they injured four passengers and robbed them of their money and valuables.
The Gomoa East District Police Command, in a swift response following the incident, arrested Bello who attempted to flee like four of his accomplices who are still at large.
Following his arrest, Bello was transferred to the Central East Regional Police Command, where he was charged, prosecuted, and convicted.
Meanwhile, police has assured, in a statement, that it has intensified efforts to arrest the other suspects to bring them to book.
“We assure the public of our continued commitment to safety and law enforcement,” the police said.
Bello and his accomplices attacked the victims around 12:30am where they made away with cash and some items.
Upon the arrest of Bello following his failed attempt to escape, a search on him uncovered GH₵3,740.00 in cash, two Samsung smartphones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, an Itel power bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a mobile phone charger, and a pair of sandals, later identified by one of the victims.
During the robbery, four victims sustained gunshot injuries and were sent to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment. They commended the police for their swift intervention after the incident.
The police has also assured the public that it will not relent on its efforts to get the remaining perpetrators and bring them to book, urging the public to assist in any way they can to get those on the run.
