The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have closed down a popular waakye joint (Columbia) in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis over a suspected food poisoning.

A report given by Connect FM’s Eric Gyatuah Wednesday morning indicate several people had to visit the hospital after taking the waakye Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

He explained “when one woman visited the hospital, the doctor asked if she had also taken in some of the delicacy” which she affirmed because they had received several cases.

After receiving several calls from the public, the FDA visited the joint to stop the sale of the food.

Eric reports that the operators of the joint were not aware of the development upon the arrival of the FDA.

The place was subsequently closed down after being informed of the rising health implications, where samples of the foods were taken to the laboratory for testing.

It is suspected that either the salad or any of the food’s accompaniment might have been contaminated.

Reports of the testing would be made available to the public by close of today.
