The Kwesimintsim District Police Command in the Western Region on Friday, September 2, 2022, arrested one John Quarshie, a 35-year-old resident of Takoradi for stealing and selling ECG metres to unsuspected persons within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and beyond.

John Quarshie and other suspecting persons have been on the radar of the Electricity Company of Ghana for a couple of months after a market survey by the company pointed to a worrying number of unsanctioned metres in the hands of many unsuspecting customers.

His, came to an end after some affected customers reported to officials of the ECG that metres installed on their properties had been uninstalled and taken away by unidentified persons.

Frantic investigations led to the arrest of John Quarshie.

Further Investigations carried out by the ECG and the Police revealed that the suspect after stealing the metres sold and installed them to unsuspecting members at a fee equivalent to the ECG’s approved charges for new service connection.

Western Region General Manager of ECG Ing. Emmanuel Justice Ofori confirmed the arrest to Connectnews and said the suspect will be processed by the Police and arraigned before court.

“We will pray that the court gives him a heavy sentence to deter others. Our monitoring team is also still on the lookout to arrest the network of unscrupulous citizens engaged in the crime”.
