The Municipal Assembly and the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council have launched the Tarkwa Nsuaem Expo, an initiative dedicated to empowering local businesses, showcasing tourism, and accelerating development.

The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents calling it a “step in the right direction” and pledging their collective support to ensure its success.

The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, despite hosting three multinational mining companies and contributing significantly to the national GDP, lacks essential developmental infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, and schools.

In response, the annual Tarkwa Nsuaem Expo has been established to champion development in the area. Supported by the Municipal Assembly and the office of the Member of Parliament, this collaborative ten days event is scheduled for 20th – 29th March, 2026 and it will be an annual event.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Ebenezer Cobbinah, emphasized the expo’s importance and urged residents to support the initiative, focusing on collective development rather than politics.

“We have a rich culture in Tarkwa Nsuaem, but where is it now? We have not celebrated it for a long time. We believe now is the right time to set the foundation for development. I assure you that this initiative is fully non-partisan; it is solely about the development of this municipality.

The major agenda for the Tarkwa Nsuaem Expo is to develop our youth. While this municipality is known for mining, we must ask: what comes after the mines? We have people with immense talent. This program is fully geared towards developing that youth talent.

By doing so, we will attract support from corporate institutions. This support will then be used to bolster our existing infrastructure, whether it be hospitals or schools. The ultimate goal is to champion the total development of this municipality.” MCE Ebenezer Cobbinah mentioned.

The Chief of Mahaamo, Nana Kobina Gyan II, pointed to Tarkwa’s under-exploited traditions, customs, and tourist sites.

He stated that the Tarkwa Expo is an essential initiative to unlock the area’s tourism potential, showcase its offerings, and nurture local talent.

“A look at the development of Tarkwa Nsuaem reveals that it lags far behind, especially when considering the resources we have. The state of our hospitals, roads, schools, and clinics is precisely why we came together to launch this program.

We will kick-start the main event in March 2026 to channel all our efforts and resources toward the development of the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality. With this goal in mind, we urge all residents, both at home and abroad, to mark their calendars and join us for this pivotal event.” Nana Added.

The initiative has been met with overwhelming positivity from the community.

Residents have hailed it as “a step in the right direction” and have pledged their full support to ensure its success.

Daniel Eshun, the owner of De-Plaza Hotel, believes it is time for Tarkwa to gain tangible benefits from its resources.

He hopes this program will serve that purpose by creating awareness of the municipality’s tourist sites and unearthing local talent.

Furthermore, he stated that the expo will champion the development the community has long been waiting for. “With this,” he added, “we are ready to support the program to ensure its success.”
