Concerns over declining examination performance linked to the implementation of Ghana’s Standard-Based and Common Core curricula have prompted a fresh push to equip teachers with modern teaching skills in the Western Region.

As a result, Private school teachers are currently undergoing specialized training organized by NNF Esquire Ltd to strengthen classroom delivery, improve assessment methods, and enhance learner performance, particularly in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Speaking at the workshop, the General Manager of NNF Esquire Ltd, Elvis Klaye, revealed that many schools continue to record a worrying mismatch between students’ classroom performance and their results in external examinations.

According to him, difficulties in understanding and applying the new curriculum remain a major challenge for many teachers, affecting effective teaching and learning outcomes.

He explained that the training is designed to help bridge these gaps by improving teachers’ understanding of curriculum expectations, pedagical approaches, and contextual assessment techniques. Participants are also being introduced to facilitator guides and practical learning materials to improve lesson delivery in classrooms.

The Training and Marketing Manager at NNF Esquire Limited, Paul Koyah who was the guest speaker, called on teachers to prepare learners for the future by introducing foundational Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills at an early stage while ensuring teaching content remains responsible and suitable for children.

He warned that students who are not exposed to digital and AI-related skills risk falling behind in today’s rapidly evolving technological world.

Mr. Koyah also urged educators to critically assess the teaching materials they use, stressing that poor or inappropriate content could negatively affect learners and damage teachers’ professional credibility.

Some teachers who participated in the workshop described the training as timely and impactful, noting that it has improved their understanding of effective teaching methods and contextual assessment.

They expressed confidence that the knowledge acquired will help strengthen classroom practices and improve students’ academic performance.

Organizers say the training forms part of broader efforts to improve the quality of education delivery in private schools and ensure teachers are better equipped to meet the demands of Ghana’s evolving educational system.

They believe empowering teachers with the right skills, tools, and modern teaching approaches will play a key role in improving learning outcomes and preparing students for the future.
