The refusal of the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct the forensic audit being demanded by the opposition NDC and other political parties is an indication that it has something to hide.
This is a comment coming from a founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, sounding a caution to the EC to be careful in order not to plunge the “nation into destruction” pleaded with Jean Mensa to heed to the calls of the parties.
He said on Ghana Tonight Wednesday, September 18, 2024, that if the Commission had nothing to hide, the call for a forensic audit of the register wouldn’t be an issue.
“I have said time and again that when a political party will win an election, in any civilised country, you could see it and we have to be careful. Once again I want to appeal to Jean Mensa, that she should be careful, she should make sure that the concerns and demands of these political parties are met by the EC because if she is not careful, she will walk this country into destruction. It can happen.
“Once again, I will like to appeal to the EC, because all she has to do is to allow a forensic audit, simple! If she prevents [sic] to do that, that will convince all thinking Ghanaians that she is hiding something,” he stated.
He was commenting on the protest organised by the NDC against the EC over what it describes as a bloated register which it is demanding the EC to conduct a forensic audit on.
The NDC on September 17, 2024 staged a demonstration to present a petition to the EC demanding a forensic audit on the voters’ register.
The protest, dubbed; ‘Enough is Enough’, was carried across all the 16 regions by the party, to register its displeasure with the Commission’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the electoral roll, which the NDC says has been characterised by some anomalies, including the illegal transfer of voters which were detected during the exhibition process.
