Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has laid a wreath at the Jubilee House on Friday afternoon, August 8, in honour of the eight officials who lost their lives in Wednesday’s helicopter clash.
Accompanied by some officials of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia was welcomed to the Jubilee House by the Chief of Staff and other government officials.
After laying the wreath and lighting a candle at the Jubilee House Gardens in memory of the departed officials, Dr. Bawumia paid tributes to them, describing their demise as a national tragedy.
“The grief comes to all Ghanaians. This is not just me, it’s not the NDC. It is all of us. It is a national tragedy,” Dr. Bawumia said when journalists asked him how about the incident.
He added: ”This is a national tragedy. Eight public officials on official duty… they were in the service of this country, and they had this tragic accident, and they all lost their lives,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Dr. Bawumia also expressed his condolences to President Mahama, the bereaved families as well as the Ghana Armed Forces.
The former Vice President also noted the need for national unity in the face of grief
“This is not a partisan issue, this is a national tragedy. You should expect full participation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because this is our national duty. We will fully participate,” he added.
Earlier in the morning, Dr. Bawumia paid commisserating visits to some of the bereaved families in Accra.
