Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has admonished football-loving Ghanaians to err on the side of caution over Thursday’s opponents in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
He said the biggest mistake many are making is talking as if the Black Stars have already qualified for the World Cup.
Speaking in an interview at the team’s hotel, Hotel L’amitie, in N’Djamena on the eve of the clash against Chad, Otto Addo conceded that the game at the Stade Olympique Marechal Idriss Deby Into will be difficult.
He said the AstroTurf is even too hard for his players.
“I’m really surprised that they have allowed this pitch for an international match,” he said.
“The pitch is really really not good. It’s very, very hard for the players, it’s like playing on concrete.”
He said that coupled with the home support could make the tie difficult for the Black Stars.
However, he is hoping not only to maintain the points gap in Group I but “if we are a little bit lucky, we can even extend the points”.
He talked Ghanaians out of thinking it will be easy over Les Sao, who are bottom of the group without a point.
“”And the worst thing we can do is to underrate Chad,” he warned.
“I hear a lot of people talking about the World Cup, but I think this is the biggest mistake we could do, to underrate a team, to think we have already made it.
“No, it is hardwork.”
Ghana will take on Chad on Matchday 7 as they seek to extend their stay at the top of the group.
They will immediately return to Accra for another qualifier against Mali on Monday.
