The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu, has launched a strong critique of the government’s efforts to combat illegal mining, saying that there is no evidence to suggest the fight against galamsey is yielding meaningful results.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9fm in Kumasi with Sir John, on Friday, August 21,2026, Mr Konadu, questioned claims that significant progress is being made, arguing instead of the continued pollution of water bodies throughout the country.

“There is no fight against illegal mining in Ghana. There is open for all illegal mining activities in Ghana, where is the fight “, he asked.

He said success of any anti-galamsey campaign should be judged by visible improvements on the ground rather than declarations by government.

The Former Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration, said the condition of the country’s rivers remains a clear indication that galamsey continues to wreak havoc on the environment despite ongoing policies.

He appealed to the media to intensify its watchdog role by helping people assess the effectiveness of government’s actions and exposing realities on the ground.
