The Chief Executive Officer of the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation, Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah avers he cannot fathom why the government is not being transparent with Ghanaians concerning the recent energy crisis in the country.

He says admitting to the challenge and opening up with the citizenry is not anything suicidal, the reason he is surprised the current administration is concealing the truth from the people.

According to the co-founder of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), although he is not an energy expert, he has learnt from experts that the state lacks the financial wherewithal to power the energy devices to produce the needed energy.

Speaking with Alfred Ocansey on TV3’s Ghana Tonight Monday, April 22, 2024, the former UN Governance Advisor indicated that the country is currently broke, following how the State’s resources have been mismanaged over the years, leaving the country with nothing to even power its plants to produce energy.

His comments come on the back of the ongoing power crisis which is also known ‘dumsor‘, that has crippled many business and put many homes in darkness for some months now.

“I don’t see what is suicidal about being transparent with your people and I don’t think we should colour every situation in the country with politics. If we do that, then we are doing ourselves a great disservice. Facts are facts,” he said.

Prof. Agyeman-Duah continued that, “it’s true that the government has been unable to address the matter as quickly as we want, the experts say the problem is lack of funds to procure the needed fuel to power the engines and we also know that the government to a large extent is broke.”

“We know what is going on in Washington currently what the Finance Minister is negotiating with the IMF to get some US$360million to get some kind of quick relief. We are in a real financial crunch. In this situation, how can you hide? you cannot because everything has been exposed,” he went blunt.
