Former Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) Board Chairman, Paul Adom-Otchere, has stated that he was treated well during his detention at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Adom-Otchere said he wasn’t subjected to any form of maltreatment while assisting with investigations at the OSP’s invitation.

He added that individuals at the facility receive humane treatment without abuse.

The journalist and former GACL Board Chair, Paul Adom-Otchere, was detained by the OSP after being invited for questioning over a revenue assurance contract allegedly awarded by GACL without following due process.

He was released on Friday, August 1, 2025, after the OSP approved revised bail conditions, which were secured by the Jospong Group of Companies –his employers — acting as surety.

His initial detention resulted from inability to meet the original bail terms, reportedly due to lack of landed property in Ghana.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV after his release, Adom-Otchere noted that: “It’s a normal place they detain every Ghanaian. You are detained with people who are also detained. Nobody maltreated anyone. That is for sure. It’s a state-owned.”

When asked to describe the environment, he said, “Yes, yes, you will be in a room with other people. It depends on the numbers they have, usually about 25 people, not in the same room. I was in a room with other people.”

Despite being detained, he revealed that certain basic necessities were provided to detainees to make them comfortable during their stay.

“They give you a mattress, yes, for now, it’s a double mattress, I think, because of the floor, and they give you a blanket; they treat you well. They provide clothes. I wasn’t due for a change of clothes yet because it was overnight. And by mid-day, they said we should get ready,” he disclosed on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The major restriction he faced, according to him, was his inability to connect with the outside world while at the OSP’s premises. “You can’t contact anyone.”

Adom-Otchere is expected back at the OSP as the investigation into the contract remains ongoing.
