Arsenal midefielder Thomas Teye Partey is among the 28 players dropped from the Black Stars squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The final 27-man squad was announced by Head Coach Chris Hughton in Accra on Monday, January 1.

The coach had submitted a provisional list of 55 players but whittled the number to 27 on Monday.

Partey has been recovering from a long injury lay-off and was expected to be named in the squad to play a bit-part role in La Cote d’Ivoire.

But Chris Hughton explained that having talked to the medical staff at Arsenal, Partey will not recover in time for the tournament.

He has been a member of Ghana’s AFCON squad since 2017.

Among the other notable players to miss the tournament are Baba Rahman, Tariq Lamptey, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Edmund Addo.
